In December 2021, the Conseil National du Secours d’Urgence et de R\u00e9habilitation (CONASUR) in Burkina Faso identified that 147,990 internally displaced people in the Eastern Region of Burkina Faso were in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. In addition,<\/span><\/p>\n

the RRM- Rapid Response Mechanism- analysis carried out revealed that both the IDP and host population faced significant protection needs \u2013 including psychosocial support, case management of victims of gender-based violence (GBV) and separated or non-accompanied <\/span>children.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Burkina Faso, <\/span>3.650 people are in need and more than two million people are in a food crisis.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Whitin this context INTERSOS implemented the project titled “Protection for people newly affected by the security crisis in the East Region of Burkina Faso” which had the objective <\/span>of preventing protection incidents and offering comprehensive, immediate care <\/span>in emergencies. \u201cOur project has made significant progress in strengthening protection and case management for vulnerable populations in the East Region of Burkina Faso<\/em>\u201d, said Giulia Magnotti, INTERSOS BURKINA mission<\/strong>. \u201cBy actively involving communities, providing emergency care, and enhancing awareness, we are working to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected by the security crisis. Our approach reflects good practices that will contribute to the long-term impact and sustainability of our actions within these communities<\/em>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The work of INTERSOS staff is based on preventing protection and ensuring the safety and well-being of the target population. They provide appropriate, comprehensive responses to protection cases, including psychosocial assistance and GBV management.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this project, we reached a total of 16,686 beneficiaries<\/strong>, providing vital support and e<\/span>xpertise: more specifically, we strengthened protection capacities at the community level through the empowerment and active involvement of 30 protection committees<\/strong> and 12 focal points<\/strong> in the implementation of the project. The active involvement of community members in <\/span>the implementation of the project ensured that local communities gained key knowledge necessary for the early identification, reporting, and referral of protection cases to care facilities. This approach enabled us to ensure the long-term sustainability of our efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n
