{"id":95717,"date":"2021-03-31T07:00:07","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T07:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.intersos.org\/covid-19-vaccines-intersos-starts-operations-in-nigeria\/"},"modified":"2023-07-14T12:41:36","modified_gmt":"2023-07-14T12:41:36","slug":"covid-19-vaccines-intersos-starts-operations-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peaceful-shtern.46-37-26-27.plesk.page\/en\/covid-19-vaccines-intersos-starts-operations-in-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 vaccines: INTERSOS starts operations in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>As part of the announced commitment in support of the COVAX initiative, INTERSOS is already active with its aid workers for the administration of vaccines in Borno State, Nigeria.<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>INTERSOS medical teams are active on the front line to support the<strong> vaccination campaign in Borno State<\/strong>, the area in North-East of <a href=\"\/?p=13793\">Nigeria<\/a> marked by a long conflict and one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.\u00a0INTERSOS intervention ensures <strong>technical and logistical support<\/strong> for the campaign coordinated by the Nigerian Ministry of Health to manage the <a href=\"\/?p=14333\">administration of the vaccines<\/a> provided under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/initiatives\/act-accelerator\/covax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COVAX<\/a> initiative.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In its first phase, the campaign involves the <strong>distribution of 75,000 doses to priority categories indicated by the government.<\/strong>\u00a0Particularly, INTERSOS\u2019 teams are supporting frontline health workers, laboratory technicians, medical doctors and intensive care unit operators. <strong>43 vaccination teams have been set up<\/strong> and INTERSOS participates with its operators in 7 of them, <strong>in the capital Maiduguri and in the districts of Bama and Ngala<\/strong>, two of the humanitarian outposts, <strong>reachable only by helicopter<\/strong>, which host hundreds of thousands of displaced people and where, for three years now, our organisation has been conducting primary health activities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The challenges we face do not only concern the administration of vaccines &#8211; underlines the <strong>medical coordinator of INTERSOS Atilio Rivera<\/strong> &#8211; but also the logistical support necessary for the<strong> organisation of vaccinations and the transport of vaccines<\/strong>, particularly the<strong> cold chain management<\/strong>. Health surveillance on the effects of vaccination and communication with the population are also of paramount importance. We know well, thanks to INTERSOS\u2019s field experience, how fundamental the <strong>mobilisation of communities<\/strong> is to ensure their full involvement and their trust&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>INTERSOS, with support from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vluchteling.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stichting Vluchteling<\/a>, will therefore dedicate additional resources to support the <strong>administration and communication of the vaccination campaign and the activation of local communities<\/strong>, especially in view of the second
